Moon is a dating app that listens first. You tell Moon what you want, and it brings you one person at a time. To do that, it has to know you, so this page explains, in plain words, what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
1. Who we are
Moon (“Moon”, “we”, “us”) is run by Profoundly Connect Private Limited. We run the Moon app and the website moon.dating, and we decide how your personal data is used. If you have any question about your data, write to hello@profoundly.love.
This policy is written under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your phone number, name, date of birth and gender.
- Your profile: photos, the answers you give, what you are looking for, and anything else you choose to add.
- Personal and sensitive answers: things like your sexuality, religion, relationship history and lifestyle. You choose what to share, and we use it to find your matches and keep Moon safe.
- What you tell Moon: your conversations with Moon, what you are looking for, and what you care about. This is how Moon learns who to bring you. If you send a voice note, it is turned into text; we keep the text, not the recording, except briefly while processing it.
- Verification: a selfie for verification when you join.
- Your matches: the people you are introduced to, your messages with them, and whether you continue or pass.
- Location: your location and the city you live in, so we introduce you to people nearby. We only read your phone’s location with your permission, and you can type your city instead.
- Device and usage: using Moon generates information about your activity, including how you use it, along with your device model and operating system, app version, sign-in sessions, a notification token and app crashes. We use it to keep Moon working, keep accounts secure and make it better.
- Safety reports: anything you or others report to us, and the people you block.
The website uses Google Analytics, which uses cookies, to understand how visitors use it. We do not use advertising cookies.
3. How we use it
- To run your account and show your profile to the people you are introduced to.
- To understand what you are looking for and find the person who fits.
- To keep Moon safe: to check that people are real and that their photos are of them, to keep each person to one account, to prevent fraud and abuse, and to act on reports.
- To fix problems, and to carry out analysis about how you use and interact with Moon, so we can make it better.
- To contact you about your account and, if you agree, about news from Moon.
- To meet our legal obligations.
We use your data because you gave us your consent when you joined, and, for safety and the law, because we are allowed or required to. By completing onboarding you consent to Moon processing what you share, including by AI, as this policy describes. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account.
4. Selfie verification
When you join, Moon asks for a short live selfie to confirm you are real and that your photos are of you. It is used only to verify you, never shown on your profile or to other members.
5. Moon’s AI
Moon uses artificial intelligence to power its core features, including your conversations with Moon and personalised matchmaking. Your photos are also checked by automated tools, including AI, to verify them. What you tell Moon is used to find your matches, and Moon shares only what’s needed to introduce you. We do not sell it, and our AI providers are not allowed to use it to train their own models under our agreements with them. Some of them may keep it for a short time only to detect abuse of their service, and then delete it.
6. Who we share it with
- Your matches see your profile and the messages you send them. Moon has no public feed and no browsing: your profile is shown to the people Moon introduces you to, and to our team when needed for safety or support.
- Service providers who help us run Moon, and may only use your data to do that work for us:
- Google Cloud, which hosts Moon’s servers, databases and photo storage;
- OpenAI, for AI processing of conversation transcripts, profile data, photos and preferences, including turning voice notes into text;
- MSG91, to send your sign-in code by SMS;
- Google Firebase, to send notifications;
- Google Places, to suggest your city as you type it;
- analytics and crash-reporting providers, to help us understand how Moon is used and keep it working;
- messaging and customer support providers.
- The law: we share information when the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
- A new owner: if Moon is ever merged or sold, your data may move with it, under this same policy.
We never sell your personal data.
Some of these providers process data outside India, for example in the United States. We only use providers who protect it to the standard this policy promises, and only where Indian law allows the transfer.
7. Deleting your account
In the app, open settings and tap delete account. If you no longer have the app, email hello@profoundly.love with the subject “delete my account” and the phone number you signed up with. We will confirm it is you, then delete the account the same way.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your personal data only for as long as it is needed to run Moon for you, or for as long as the law requires. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except what we need to keep for safety, to resolve disputes, or to meet our legal obligations.
9. Your choices and rights
- See and correct the data we hold about you.
- Delete your account and your data, from the app or by writing to us.
- Withdraw your consent, for example to location, at any time. Withdrawing consent to what Moon needs to work, such as your profile or verification, means closing your account.
- Turn off notifications and location at any time in your phone’s settings.
- Nominate someone to use these rights for you if you die or cannot act yourself.
- Complain to our grievance officer, and if you are not satisfied, to the Data Protection Board of India.
To use any of these, write to hello@profoundly.love. We reply within 30 days.
10. Grievance officer
If you have a complaint about your data or anything on Moon, write to our grievance officer:
Anindya Pal, Grievance Officer
Profoundly Connect Private Limited
hello@profoundly.love
We acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days.
11. Keeping it safe
Your data is encrypted in transit and stored with providers who protect it to industry standards. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect yours, and we will tell you, and the Data Protection Board where the law requires, if something goes wrong that affects you.
12. Age
Moon is only for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger, and we delete it if we find it.
13. Child safety standards
These are the standards of Moon:Conversation First Dating, run by Profoundly Connect Private Limited, against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). Moon does not allow child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sextortion or any sexual content involving a minor.
Moon is only for people 18 and over. Everyone gives their date of birth when signing up, and anyone under 18 cannot continue.
To report a child safety concern, report or block the person from your chat or your matches list and add a note saying what happened, or write to hello@profoundly.love. We review every report.
When we learn of CSAE on Moon, we remove the content, ban the account and keep the evidence the law requires. We report it to the police and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in), as India’s POCSO Act requires.
Child safety contact: Anindya Pal, Profoundly Connect Private Limited, hello@profoundly.love
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
